Kumar says, “Many times, we were asked ‘What is the need for a kids’ salon?’ For us, this question is answered every time we see a once-traumatised child walk in and ask the barber to give him a ‘cool cut’. As for haircuts, kids nowadays aren’t happy with any boring old style - they want something that will stand out, like a silhouette of a football or Spiderman shaved into their heads. Khaitan estimates that they do about one or two lice treatments on a daily basis, especially at the beginning of a new school year. Besides, these salons also offer a solution for what is every parent’s nightmare-lice. We provide a space to parents, especially those with younger kids, who can come and get a safe, quick and hassle-free haircut,” she says. Regular salons can be overwhelming for small kids, with their scissors, trimmers and loud hairdryer noises. “My kids weren’t fussy about getting haircuts in salons, but I noticed that other children would be screaming their heads off,” says the co-founder of the capital’s first kids-only salon. She remembers thinking to herself what a great idea that is, but it wasn’t until she had two more children that she decided to set up Flick in New Delhi.
